Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 June 2011Style Name: N300 ExtenderVerified PurchaseI read all of the positive reviews, but having already tried and failed to extend my wireless network with an Apple Airport Express (I have a Windows PC - spent 5 hours that occasion tearing hair out before returning the product), I just had to give this a go.
It was brilliantly easy to set up: out the box, plugged in at the mains, followed very simply instructions in a leaflet and on-screen and the extension had been created within five minutes. And I don't mean that as shorthand for under half an hour; it really was very quick. First impressions out of the box: (a) it is actually quite small (smaller than my Netgear router); the picture is pleasantly deceiving in that respect; (b) has a good build quality, looks discrete and doesn't offend the eye in the way I feared that other products might.
My internet signal sob story, for context - my bedroom and living area are in the basement floor of an old house with walls of concrete and metal and there are several doors closing off areas; the wireless router is on the same floor but kept in a cupboard under the stairs (only telephone point there set up for broadband!) and although it is 802.11n, I think it's quite weak (tends to overheat, could be quite tired out). The only place I could get signal was a small shelf under my television, so long as a number of doors were kept open (giving a passage for the wireless signal to travel through, I could just about get two bars of signal). My Windows PC would pick up 2 bars out of 5 from there, but other devices (iPad, iPhone etc) wouldn't pick the network up at all.
Now (and this is being written 10 minutes after setting the extender up), I am sat at my desk as far away from the router as I could be, with an internet connection. On top of that, I think the connection is somewhat faster than it was when I connected directly (but I have not had the chance or time to test this fully). Also, and probably most importantly, I can use Wifi on more portable devices such as iPad and iPhone in bed - my entire bedroom appeared to be a dead zone before.
In short, this not only does what it says on the tin, but it's so easy and I think it's a fair price to pay for a piece of kit which liberates internet access. I had considered getting a new internet connection, but even at £10 a month that would quickly exceed the cost of an extender like this. I can't recommend the product enough.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 August 2011Style Name: N300 ExtenderVerified PurchaseGot this in an emergency, had a meeting in a room just too far from my office for accessing my wireless network. Other options considered were to go to N and replace my current Wireless router and get a wireless N adapter for my laptop, and then no guarantee it would work, or get powerline Ethernet but not sure if my office is on the same power circuit as the meeting room.
So this seemed a reasonable cost solution, and it works, to a certain extent. I would ideally have liked to put it in the reception area next to the meeting room, but the weak signal from my office wireless network is still a weak signal to this Extender. The compromise is that it on the same floor landing as my office where the only plug socket is next to the ladies WC but with the meeting room below, I now get a reasonable - though not the best - signal in the meeting room.
Big pluses are the first time setup wizard which works a treat, lists all the networks in the building (and ranks where yours is in terms of power) and then leads you through simple steps to "tie" it in to your wireless network and it is also cost effective compared to the other options above.
Oh, and I only have to plug it in when I'm using the meeting room but don't forget to change the default password in case someone messes around with it whilst you are in the meeting as the IP address and password are printed on the unit.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 November 2011Style Name: N300 ExtenderVerified PurchaseI ordered this network extender yesterday and it arrived in the Highlands today. I paid a little extra for the fast delivery and it was worth it. I moved my office location to an upstairs room in an 100 year old cottage and the thick stone walls didn't like it at all. The signal in the downstairs room my wife uses for her computer was absolute rubbish.
I started to install this with great trepidation - but followed the instructions exactly and had my laptop and my wife's computer up and running with 'Excellent' connection strength showing on both with 30 minutes of opening the box.
I am not a computer geek - it WAS EASY as anything and I am absolutely delighted with this product, the delivery and the ease if installation.
I would also note that both of the computers downstairs COULD get a signal from the router before I started - so don't worry that it says they have to be out of range before starting. That isn't so, as others have said before me.

1.0 out of 5 stars netgear universal wi-fi range extender
